Rex has been playing plumber this week. Our drain to our tub was clogged and since it is super expensive to call a plumber to come fix it, he decided to take on the task. We first were trying to stick snakes down the drain to try and get the clog out, because we thought it was my hair! The snakes couldn't make it around a 90 degree elbow so he found a door that goes under our house. He said he opened it and there were tons of spider webs he had to wipe out of his way. He found the tub pipes and ended up having to undo all of them up to where all the drains in the house come together to go into the septic tank. He brought them out to clean them and what came out looked like it should've gone down the toilet and not the tub. There was just tons of hardwater build up and dirt and I'm sure hair in the muck. Well, there were a couple pipes broken and it happened that our neighbor was in town. We called them and they got the parts we needed. The next day Rex put everything back together. Now the problem is that the drain seal is broke and leaking pretty good, but that pipe is rusted and he can't get it off. He is afraid to break it for fear that he won't be able to find replacement pipes since the house is so old. We are going to town next week and hope we find something to fix our problem.
Yesterday, he and Terry, our boss lady, had to fix a seal on our neighbors toilet since it had been leaking. They also had to rip up some of her floor and replace it because it was soaked and disgusting! So, he has had a good share of playing plumber for a while.
Can I now complain a little bit...whoever built this house or put it together sure didn't know what the heck they were doing. While Rex was under the house he found that the main heat duct was wide open and blowing tons of hot air under the house instead of in it. He also noticed that where that duct was wide open there should be a pipe going to Everett's bedroom, but there isn't. There is no heat that goes to Everett's heat vent and there is no way to add one because of the way the house's foundation is. So, they must have figured if they put a vent in the room, then people would think there was heat coming in. Rex ended up closing off the duct and now there is a lot more heat coming into the house, but if we leave Everett's door closed too long it gets mighty cold in there. Another retarded thing about this house is the electrical wiring. There are hardly any outlets where you need them and where we do have them they are in really inconvenient spots. Also, going into our laundry room you have to walk all the way to the back of the room just to turn on the light. It is kind of freaky when it is pitch black. Okay, I think I am done now. Have a great day!
